Gabriel Bortoleto: F1 Bio, Stats & Career Timeline
Gabriel Bortoleto is a Brazilian Formula 1 driver for the Audi F1 Team. Born on 14 October 2004 in Osasco, São Paulo, Bortoleto arrived in Formula 1 in 2025 as one of the most decorated junior drivers on the grid, having won back-to-back FIA Formula 3 and Formula 2 championships in successive rookie seasons — a feat only a handful of drivers in modern motorsport history have matched.
Early Life and Karting Career
Bortoleto grew up around motorsport, with a father closely involved in the industry, and began karting at around age seven or eight. He built a strong regional and international karting résumé, including a third-place finish in the OKJ class at both the European and World Championships, before progressing to single-seaters in 2020 with the Italian F4 Championship.
Junior Formulae: Back-to-Back Championships
Bortoleto's rise through the junior single-seater ladder was rapid. After a strong rookie season in Italian F4 with Prema Powerteam in 2020, he moved to the Formula Regional European Championship in 2021 with FA Racing by MP Motorsport, then competed in the Formula Regional Asian Championship in 2022. Joining the McLaren Driver Development Programme, Bortoleto stepped up to FIA Formula 3 in 2023 and won the championship outright, also picking up the Anthoine Hubert Award. He carried that momentum directly into FIA Formula 2 in 2024, winning the title as a rookie with Invicta Racing and earning the FIA Rookie of the Year award — a rare double of consecutive F3 and F2 titles that made him one of the most closely watched prospects heading into Formula 1.
Formula 1 Debut and Rookie Season (2025)
Bortoleto left the McLaren junior programme at the end of 2024 to sign with the Stake F1 Team (Kick Sauber) for 2025, partnering Nico Hülkenberg. He made his Formula 1 debut at the Australian Grand Prix and scored his first championship points during his rookie campaign, ultimately finishing 19th in the standings with 19 points.
The Move to Audi (2026)
For 2026, Bortoleto's team was rebranded as the Audi F1 Team following Audi's full works entry into the sport, with Bortoleto retained alongside Hülkenberg. He has continued to pick up points finishes through the midfield battle, with a best result of sixth place at the Hungarian Grand Prix. He remains contracted to Audi through at least the end of the 2026 season as the team builds toward its long-term works programme.
