Biography
Lance Stroll: F1 Bio, Stats & Career Timeline
Lance Stroll is a Canadian Formula 1 driver for Aston Martin Aramco. Born on 29 October 1998 in Montreal, Quebec, Stroll is the son of Canadian billionaire and Aston Martin team owner Lawrence Stroll, and has built one of the more unusual careers in modern Formula 1, combining a dominant junior racing résumé with a decade of experience at the team his own family now owns.
Early Life and Junior Career
Stroll began karting at age ten and joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2010. He made his single-seater debut in the Florida Winter Series in 2014 before winning the Italian F4 Championship in his rookie season with Prema, taking seven wins and thirteen podiums despite missing the final round through injury. He went on to win the Toyota Racing Series in 2015, then dominated the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in 2016 with Prema Powerteam, taking fourteen wins and twenty podiums to finish 100 points clear of second place — becoming the first Canadian driver to win the championship.
Formula 1 Debut with Williams (2017–2018)
Stroll made his Formula 1 debut with Williams in 2017 at 18 years old, becoming, at the time, the second-youngest driver ever to start a Grand Prix. He earned his first taste of the podium after surviving a chaotic Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and showed strong wet-weather form with a front-row qualifying result at Monza the same season.
Racing Point and Aston Martin's Best Season (2019–2020)
Stroll moved to Racing Point for 2019, and delivered his strongest Formula 1 form to date in the pandemic-affected 2020 season, taking his maiden pole position in treacherous wet conditions at the Turkish Grand Prix and adding two podium finishes at the Italian and Sakhir Grands Prix — a career-best campaign that yielded 75 championship points.
The Aston Martin Era (2021–Present)
When Racing Point was rebranded as Aston Martin ahead of the 2021 season under his father's ownership, Stroll partnered four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel, before being joined by two-time champion Fernando Alonso in 2023 as the team significantly raised its ambitions. Stroll has continued to score points consistently through Aston Martin's development toward the front of the grid, recording his best championship finish of 10th in 2023, and remains with the team into 2026, now in his fourth season alongside Alonso.
Personal Life
Stroll holds dual Canadian and Belgian nationality. His sister, Chloe Stroll, is married to professional snowboarder Scotty James. Outside racing, Stroll has been closely involved in his family's broader business and motorsport interests, including Aston Martin's long-term Formula 1 project.
